He is also the Chairman of the M.Sc Course in Crop Protection initiated by the University of Ruhuna Faculty of Science and Faculty of Agriculture.

Research - University of Ruhuna

The research projects directed by Prof Rajapakse utilize his experience in exploring use of environmentally friendly pesticides, stored product entomology and integrated pest management. Prof Rajapakse has been involved in numerous inter disciplinary projects. As a principal investigator he has obtained grant funds from NSF, IFS (Sweden) Leverhulme Trust UK and have submitted to USAID a research program to design an Integrated pest management program for vegetables in collaboration with University of Florida USA. He has published 78 research papers in international regional and local journals including the presentations made at symposiums. He is also a member of the Research Committee of the Coconut Research Institute and was awarded a grant of Rs 3.2 Million by CARP to find a suitable technique to destroy coconut mites now ravaging in the north west and coconut belt with active research support from CRI. The research he carried out at the Sri Lanka Cashew Corporation is the base of recommendation of the present SLCC pest control strategy. The research on fruit flies has been documented in to CD by the University of Sydney, Australia and available for sale.

Industry

The research projects directed by Prof Rajapakse included the search of pesticides for major insect pests of cashew and series of vegetables. His recommendations have been accepted by the Registrar of Pesticides and appear in the Techno guide published by the Department of Agriculture. He also functions as an advisor Sri Lanka Crop Protection Association. He has edited the publication on Storage insect pests of rice and other cereal and legume crops which will be published by the Institute of Post Harvest Technology in Anuradhapura

Administration
