POSTS OF RESEARCH ASSISTANT (01 POST ON CONTRACT

 

 

Applications are invited for the post of Research Assistant on contract basis for the research program on Weligama Coconut Leaf Wilt Disease.

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture or Biological Sciences preferably with B.Sc. (Agric) or B.Sc. (specialized in Botany or Zoology) wiyhan honours degree.
  

• Experience in PCR technology is essential.

Period:

• Six Months

Salary:

• Rs 17,000 per month
  

• Employees Provident Fund / ETF will be paid at government approved rates.

 

Applicants should Under the overall supervision of the FAO representative in Sri Lanka and the International Emergency Coordinator, in cooperation with other Project Officers and in close collaboration with the National Authorities, the Consultant will carry out the following duties.

 

• ensure the organization and implementation of regular coordination meetings among all relevant actors involved in the livestock, fisheries and agriculture sector;
• in close collaboration and on consultation with the local national livestock, fishery and agriculture authorities, other national and international organizations active in the above-mentioned sectors and beneficiary community leaders, identify geographical areas of priority for the implementation of the FAO emergency project;
• confirm/ validate the FAO district-based plans for the rehabilitation of the livestock, fishery and agriculture sectors;
• coordinate the daily work of the FAO field monitoring staff assigned to the district;
• assist FAO technical staff in the preparation of the equipment and supplies lists to be ordered for the implementation of the project and district plans;
• assist in the selection of local suppliers, transportation and storage of inputs and all other necessary equipment and supplies to the district, as well as its distribution to the beneficiaries;
• carry out field supervision and monitoring of the program field activities and appraise the overall program progress and performance; and
• Perform other related duties and activities upon instructions from the International Senior Emergency Coordinator.

 

Qualifications: University Degree in Agriculture, Livestock, Food Security or Fisheries Technology.

 

Work experience:

 

District Officer- should have a minimum of 10yrs work experience in Rural Development Projects in national and/ or international organizations. Computer literacy at working level is required.

Asst. District Officer- should have a minimum of 5yrs work experience in Rural Development Projects in national and/ or international organizations. Computer literacy at working level is required.

 

Diploma holders in Agriculture, Livestock, Food Security or Fisheries Technology with 20yrs work experience could also apply.

 

Language: excellent written and spoken English and Tamil at working level desirable.

 

Reporting: provide a standardized monthly report on food security, as well as provide details minutes of meeting and mission reports.
