Description: A tall, nearly glabrous twining perennial herb; leaves 10-20 cm long; flowers in racemes, white or pink, fruits white pods, green or purple margined; seeds white, yellow, purple or black.
Habitate: Throughout India, cuhivated.
Propagation: By seeds and vegetative method.
Parts Used: Leaves, seeds.
Chemical Consistuents: The plant contains alkaloid, trigonelline, known for its hypoglycaemic activity.
Uses: Leaves are alexipharmic and emmenagogue, and are given in colic. Seeds are sweet, astringent, sour laxative, diuretic, galactagogue, anaphrodisiac, stomachic and antispasmdic. They are useful in inflammations, strangury, agalactia and vitiated conditions of kapha.
