    • Participated as a Resource Person to the Training Workshop conducted by the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka, on 20th June 2003 for School Teachers selected from schools in Matara district on propagation and cultivation of Rath handun (Pterocarpus santalinus) and Masbedda (Gymnema sylvestre).

    • Participated as a Resource Person to the Training Workshop conducted by the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka, on 19th June 2003 for Ayurvedic Practitioners selected from Southern region on propagation and cultivation of Rath handun (Pterocarpus santalinus) and Masbedda (Gymnema sylvestre).

    • Participated as a Resource Person to a radio programme (2 hrs) on Nutritional Gardening in Ruhunu Sevaya on 08th October 2009. This was under “Api Wawamu Rata Nagamu” organized by Ruhunu Sevaya of Sri Lankan Broadcasting Cooperation.

    • Contributed as the Sub Activity Coordinator to home gardening in the CIDA Restore Project of the University of Ruhuna. In addition to guiding the farmers on home gardening and Organic farming, with the help of other staff members of the Department, I was able to establish several model home gardens at Madiha and Gandara GS Divisions in Matara District under this project.

    • Initiated a scholarship programme with the help of Chinese University Community to provide assistance to affected children of the Tsunami 2004. The programme named “Sahana Scholarship Foundation of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna” was appreciated by the Faculty Board also in 2005.

    • Worked as a member of the team who established a Planting Material Production Center attached to the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna. The center has being working as one of the most successful income generating projects at the University of Ruhuna.

    • Worked as a member of the team who established a model Medicinal Plant Herbarium attached to the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna. The herbarium called “Center of Excellence for Medicinal plants” has around 200 medicinal plants species.

    • Represented the country in several fund raising programmes organized by the Chinese community to provide assistance for the affected people of the Tsunami 2004. The collected funds were channeled through Chinese Red Cross. In supporting this, I have published two news articles in Chinese news papers, in addition to the several media and public addresses made by me on their requests.

    • Worked as the Senate nominated Faculty representative to the organizing committee of the Exhibition and the Ayurveda Conference held on 26/01/2008 at the University of Ruhuna. The event was organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Ruhuna.

    • Worked as the University nominated member of the Organic Farming Cluster of UGC.

    • Contributed as a Team member for the preparation Initial Environmental Examination Report of the Wemedilla Reservoir Project in Matale District.

    • Contributed as a Team member for the preparation of Initial Environmental Examination Report of the Kekiri Obada Reservoir Project in Hambanthota District.

My research interests lie primarily in the areas of assessing metal contamination of agricultural lands and their remediation, and the effects of heavy metals on growth and development of economically important higher plant and algae species. I also work on the development of agro-technological packages for economically important medicinal plant species.
